3.5

This one was a solid 3.5 stars for me. I liked it as an intro to a new town and a new set of characters. I liked the originality of Warren and Maisie's second chance. Can't say I have read one with this set of scenarios- waiting on divorce papers to be signed and FMC is engaged to another man! The steam and build up were done well in my opinion. I think I had a hard time with how drastically the FMC changed her mind about her life in general including her love life. She was so dead set on being happy in New York and being in love with her current fiance, the turn around to realizing her mistakes was a little fast for me. I also felt like she was semi hostile towards Warren, who is just the sweetest, and to have her accept the option of 7 dates with him before he signed the papers just didn't seem realistic given how they had both acted. I also felt like I missed what happened when they were younger- how they just drifted apart. With that being said, I LOVED watching Warren work his charm to get Maisie to remember what they had together. What he still felt for her. Their connection was a VERY low simmer at first but once Maisie let her walls down, it was pretty hot. Great build up. I do love that they ended up together and that Warren helped Maisie realize work isn't everything in life. You have to recognize and appreciate the salad days!

Maisie is on a mission. She HAS to get her estranged husband to sign these divorce papers so that she can move forward with marrying her now fiance. Said fiance who does not know that she is in fact still legally married to her high school sweetheart. Really childhood sweetheart. But Warren refuses to sign them again. He does give her an option though. He wants seven dates to prove to her that they could still be amazing. He wants to remind her of what they once had and show her that it is still there. Maisie hesitantly says yes. It feels a little slimy but ground rules have been laid out and so she moves forward with it. She soon realizes how much her life has changed since she moved to the city. How much her priorities have changed. She doesn't just go out with friends and have fun like her and Warren are doing. She can't remember the last time her and her fiance cooked together or took the time to go for a walk together. It's like her dreams got ahead of reality somehow. And Warren is doing exactly what he said he would. He is reminding her that they have a soul connection. Before anything happens Maisie loops her fiance in. She makes plans for her future with Warren. She wants this and will take the consequences whatever they may be. Besides the time spent together, Maisie also forgot how fun foreplay was. How fun things in the bedroom could be. How much her and Warren enjoyed each other. Now though that Maisie has made up her mind, her fiance has a final strategy up his sleeve to make sure she will pay for changing their plans.

Warren is a married man. He has been for a while now, but the tricky part is that he and his wife don't talk. He can't pinpoint when things shifted but she moved to the city and left him in the dust. Now she is back again with divorce papers, but this time she is here in person. She is HERE. And he realizes this is his moment to try to win her back. So he offers her a choice. He wants seven dates to prove to her that there is still something between them, and if she doesn't feel it then he will sign the papers. He has always been a goner for this woman. He just has to play it cool and let that bleed through a little bit so she will remember what they had. And he quickly realizes he loves this version of her. He loves being able to watch her get comfortable with him again. He loves how she is the same woman but also very different. He loves watching her let her walls down and get a little closer. He just LOVES her. So when she says she reciprocates and gives him the green light. All bets are off. Warren feels like he needs to pinch himself to make sure he is not dreaming. This can't be real. But it is. She is here and she has chosen him. She makes his body and his soul sing, and all is right. Until Maisie goes back to tie up loose ends, and Warren has to step in to show everyone that he isn't going anywhere without Maisie by his side.

Warren was just the sweetest man. The shrine that he created for this woman who left him high and dry. I loved when they both bared their soles to each other about how they reacted to their time apart. I was intrigued enough in this one to be excited about book 2. I loved the text banter and getting to meet all of the siblings, and can't wait for the rowdy playboys to find their ladies who will whip them into shape. I would recommend this for a nice intro to a new setting with an original play on second chance!
