Down Too Deep by J. Daniels

Trigger Warnings include:
mentions of suicide, grief

I didn’t even finish the book before deciding that this has become a comfort read! The book starts off heavy; we find Nathan in a dark place. But Jenna is a ball of sunshine who literally lights up his world. She was exactly what he needed. Yes, she was exactly what he needed because she would be watching his daughter for him. BUT, she was so much more than that. And it was obvious from the start. I fell in LOVE with those kids. I’m sure it was the parent in me, but everything about the bonds in this book hit me right in my heart’s sweet spot. I felt like I was a part of their story. It was heartbreaking to watch Nathan grieve. But it was beautiful to watch him bond with Marley. And of course, to watch Jenna and her twins bond with her and Nate as well. Nate wears his heart on his sleeve. And while he sometimes tries to hide it, it’s not because of his pride, it’s because he doesn’t want sympathy or pity. Which only made me sadder. I cried periodically throughout the whole book. Nate may have lived a whole life before Jenna and the twins came into his life, but what they find together is so much bigger.
