Did not finish book. Stopped at 60%.
Completely unnecessary explicit rape scene with no warning or expectation that was where things were going and I just lost all respect for the author. I also was already frustrated by the excess of political narrative - in general I agree with the political stance of the book, but a) I'm not American, and it's so VERY American, and b) I already witnessed (from afar, thankfully) Trump's presidency, I don't need the political landscape described in detail taking me away from an otherwise interesting sci fi plot. I don't even usually move politics in books, but the author could have cut half of the book and kept the plot he actually made me care about. And that half being cut would have contained the horrible, disgusting, unnecessary scene that brought me fully out of the book.
