informative slow-paced

The last third was fantastic, but it was a struggle to get through the first parts. I'm coming from the standard of Endurance, which I found to be a cohesive narrative that kept me hooked the entire time. With Erebus, not so much so. Of course, Endurance had a lot more information to go off of, but also seemed to have more time and care into the story part of it.
There were a couple lines that were so, so in keeping with British ignorance: assumptions that something happening to British people must be the most X,Y,Z. That said, though, the account of the final journey and the race to find out what happened was wonderful.
