singerofstories 's review for:
Dorothy on the Rocks
by Barbara Suter
Hmm. How do I write this review. Well, I wasn't a huge fan of many aspects of this book. For example, I am a performer and a singer. You couldn't PAY ME A MILLION DOLLARS to smoke a pack of cigarettes and then go onstage and sing a show. Then add booze to that? NO. Well, Maggie does this almost every day. Its unreal to me and I hated it. I guess i just have a low tolerance for reading about self-destructive characters. She was funny, and I liked that she was a singer and a New Yorker and a fun person...it was just so not fun to me how she treated herself and her friends. Drove me crazy. Now let's talk about the ending of the book. Did not see it coming. No one can see that coming. It hurt me and I was practically in tears...but in the best of ways. I hated that what happened happened, but at the same time, it raised my rating of the book from a 1 to a 3.5, almost considered a 4. I love the rose that came with the huge, huge thorn. I thought Maggie finally came around after it. And I have hopes for her future. Overall, not a terrible read. Not one I'll ever pick up again...but I'll definitely have it on my mind for a while.
