Just wow.
I cannot really express what I feel because this novel tells us so so much about Vietnamese history many us in the West most likely did not know about. It is shocking and really heartbreaking to read about the Trần family's life, told by a grandmother and a granddaughter.
I can only encourage anyone slightly interested in Vietnamese culture and history to read this novel, as it not only showcases a different view on the war(s) in Vietnam but also opens your heart for the people of this story.
