Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg

Doing my lesbian required reading homework. This book was insane! An absolute journey from start to finish. I found it incredibly smart and beautifully written. Something about the style is so intimate and the narrator's voice is incredibly clear throughout. It really feels like you're going through their life with them, and you can feel them change and grow. Sometimes it was hard to read because of how vividly the violence is written, but I understand the intention of this. I enjoyed the long cast of characters and how real and grounded they all feel. The whole book really feels this way--the story, setting, characters all feel rooted in reality and it made the experience of reading it very immersive and personal. This was a book club book and I think being able to discuss it and its significance with others made me appreciate it more. Very very glad to have read it.
