The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

5.0

This story is not just about magical children and their caretakers. Every review and description begins with that. I want to believe the author chose magic and kids to creatively and effectively talk about LGBTQ+ discrimination, prejudice, acceptance, the importance of family (not necessarily a biological one) and supporting those who feel weird, isolated, lonely, and marginalized.

Here's what I loved:
• The humor. I laughed a lot.
• The writing. Even the audio narration earns 5 stars.
• The themes. So relevant to today.
• The ending. So satisfying.
• The moral. Oftentimes, novelists entertain and forget the opportunity to teach.
