The Deep by Rivers Solomon

'The Remembrance took more than it gave. It required she remember and relive the wajinru’s entire history all at once.'

Hypnotic and affecting.
Historical tragedy creates generational trauma and merfolk in this emotionally fraught fantasy. It feels like a beautiful and broody aquatic dream, and I eagerly sank into it.

'“Remember,” she said. This was their story. This was where they began. Drowning.'
