A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
4.0

This is a love-hate-kinda thing. I finished about 2/3 and I was thinking about giving this a mere two stars because to be honest: I didn't get the book AT ALL. And I was severely disappointed by this. I even looked it up just to make things easier. The language is old for my - too young - mind. To me it was like being presented with a big heap of yarn without beginning nor end with a lot of knots. It was a struggle but I'm glad I ploughed through because in the last 100th pages I finally got it. I got the characters, I got their backstories, I just ... got it. What is there left to say?

The insanity of it all! How inhumane can one be driven by neglect? Is it possible that the burden of forced poverty can drive people to madness and a cruelty that surpasses the rich aristocrats? If so ... I fear for our dear politicians here. They are circling back to old ways. And Guillotine is smiling violently towards them.

But above all. How strong love! How passionate life ... Oh, and that ending ... Heartbreaking.
