English is the authors 3rd language, so naturally, it's a bit broken here and there. I believe the author is doing a big edit and will re-upload the book. Either way, I'm NEVER going to mark someone down for grammatical errors when English isn't their first language, let alone their second. I'm actually a little bit disappointed in the reviewing community as people have left reviews like that.
It's an amazing talent to write a book in your non-dom language, and it's an honour to read it. Soapstone should be so, so proud of herself for what she has achieved.
I'm very familiar with broken English and talk to folks a lot whose first language isn't English, so I found this easy to read. And if anything, it added to the whimsy and charm of a magical fantasy story!
I love this tale, I could imagine it as an anime or animated series quite easily. The quest elements were well thought out and enjoyable to follow along with.
I will say now that this book absolutely gutted me. It ripped my heart out and stomped on it. The absolute savagery of the writing in the later half of the book brought tears to my eyes and hurt my heart. The way emotion was portrayed was painful but elegant. This is going to be another book that stays with me for a long time
