As much as I loved some of the moments between Violet and Nico, this book was super boring. I knew from the beginning what the conflict and resolution would be, so there really wasn't anything to hold interest through the story.
Of course there's the romance, but that can only be so interesting. This was supposed to be friends-to-lovers romance but they didn't really have much of a friendship. They've been working together and say they're friends but they've hooked up and have sexual tension and avoid each other when they're not doing business stuff and that doesn't really scream friendship to me.
My biggest complaint is how every single book so far is basically a giant miscommunication trope. Or just like, lack of any communication. Both the FMC and MMCs are always like "I feel very strongly about them but they probably don't care about me" and then of course at the end they're like "wow we love each other." This kind of no-stakes repetition is very boring and also annoying. Not communicating and then finally communicating is not the way a couple should develop their relationship. Especially all the couples! We need actual conflict and growth.
The whole point, in my opinion, of having a series that focuses on different couples in each book is so you can explore a variety of people and relationships. Giving them different names, different supernatural powers, and different hobbies doesn't achieve this. All the sisters are supposed to have different personalities, yet they're all fairly similar in their relationships when we're getting their POVs. All the males are territorial and turned and all the females are reluctant and turned on.
Also, I'm starting to notice some of the wording doesn't make a lot of sense. Like the author knew what they wanted to say, but didn't get it quite right. Not a big deal, but it becomes noticeable after a while.
I'm questioning how much I loved the 1st book (I think I gave it like 4.75) because the 2nd and 3rd book have had a lot of really cheesy, YA-sounding language that I don't really enjoy and I thought in the 1st book that I was happy to read a book that wasn't cheesy and YA-sounding. So either it was just better, or I was really good at ignoring it in the 1st book. 😅
