The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

5.0

Wow. I saw the movie first. I KNOW the book is always better. But DAMN! So moving, and beautiful, and RELEVANT. I wish everyone in America would read this. As a white woman, it forced me to think about my white privilege, and contemplate the responsibility I have to acknowledge the experience of black Americans today. I love Star, I love her family, I love this book! I cried and cried and cried. But it wasn’t just some depressing reflection of our current “cultural norms”, it gave me HOPE. And what do we have at all, if not for hope?
