The Invocations
by Krystal Sutherland
Five women are dead, all witches.
Emer (cursewriter), Jude (cursed by multiple demons), & Zara (murdered sister) must come together to try and fight whatever or whoever is targeting Emer’s customers. In trying to give women power and autonomy she has unknowingly made them targets.
I was immediately engaged from the prologue, the way Sunderland mixed the supernatural with a fear all women can understand. The writing is so engaging, even in a severe reading slump I managed to read the first 120 pages without stopping.
I adored the use of language, etymology, and translation in the invocations. It’s something I adore to see in the books I read. All three FMCs are so interesting and different without falling into the ‘not like other girls’ pitfall & I loved how everything came together at the end. The stakes are high for everyone in this and it worked so well.
Can’t recommend this enough it’s the first book that wasn’t a re-read I’ve truly enjoyed in months.
