Burning Questions: Essays and Occasional Pieces, 2004 to 2021 by Margaret Atwood
3.0
I have, at various times, found Atwood's works funny, serious, thought-provoking, dark and dismal but always very cerebral. This collection of her essays and talks encompassed all this. So it is only natural that I enjoyed some materials but skipped over a large volume of the writing because it was repetitive or tedious or simply went over my head in the absence of ready context.
However, I enjoyed one essay in particular and reproduce an extract from Somebody’s Daughter on indigenous communities and exploitation by whites. Margaret quotes Bernadette Dean - “Not everyone is a wife, not everyone is a mother, not everyone is a grandmother; but every woman is somebody’s daughter.”
