The mid century aesthetic—including strict social prescriptions and keeping up appearances—gets turned on its head with Josie Schuller, who is a perfect 60s housewife at home but a chillingly capable assassin in her free time. The art is wonderful— it captures space age mid century details and fashions and somehow translates them into scenes of stylized violence and gore that feel of a piece. Mock ads for mid century products with a killer twist (booze, cleaning products, cars, cigarettes) are sprinkled throughout to separate chapters and further fuse Josie’s character with the idea of appearance and truth.
