Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis
3.0

I thought this was a good read. I can understand some people being put off by the intensity with which Katie talks about her faith throughout the entire book. In another context this might have bothered me too, but because of HER context-- living in a developing country a world away from her family and American life, adopting 13 girls and serving "the least of these" all day every day-- I found that instead I was just struck by her steady faith and deep trust in God's sovereignty and provision. Having given up comfort and normalcy, I don't suspect her of disingenuousness or being obnoxiously overly spiritual like I might someone else writing like this.

Given her incredible servant's heart and the radical way she has laid her life down, I have to roll my eyes a bit at some of the nit-picky, condescending criticism other people have of her. It's a lot easier to criticize someone else who is out there trying to make a difference than to actually GET OUT THERE and do something. By all accounts, Katie is deeply loved by her Ugandan community and has radically blessed many people. I enjoyed hearing her story from her and definitely took away applications for my own life.
