i think this is actually my least favourite book in the series. the first section of the book was soooo name and location heavy that it felt more like a history lesson instead of an epic fantasy, which is unfortunate since it is also the climax of so many plot points. eowyn brought me back, i hate that she gave up being a shieldmaiden and her ‘change of mind’ (regarding aragorn) felt like a bit of a cop out.
the first time i read it i didn’t like what happens when they finally got back to the shire, but it was my favourite chapter of the book this time.
frodo’s conclusion is actually heartbreaking. i haven’t stopped thinking about it. i have so many questions.
the andy serkis version of the audiobook is far superior than the former version i listened to because my brain just clocked out for so much of it the first time around. i’m sure ill re read this series again.
