Everytime I see a horror novel recommendation video, this novel came up. So after I randomly found it on Spotify's audiobook section, I decided to just give it a chance a read it.

I can say, I get it. I see why people consider this story scary and unnerving. I can say that the thought of it all was pretty disturbing. Hit me in one of my fears. The main character, Amanda, was just barely fleshed out enough to where you have a connection with her. So you actually are invested and kinda care if she can get rid of the demon.

Now for some criticism. This book has some good ol' 2000s microagressions and biggotry. How minorities are written about it icky or stereotypical at times. And the narrator sure knew how to throw on a stereotypical accent. But because I have watched a lot of 2000s media I'm not as sensitive to it. But if you are, you're not gonna like it.

Also I have to say that the husband was kinda an ass. Like did he deserve to die? no. Was he completely terrible? no. But it's just his condesending and selfish nature at times that make you just be like...why does Amanda like you. I will say, it's easier to take because even Amada says it's some of his bad qualities.

Also here are something I consider more neutral, where I don't know if it's bad or no. But what was with the doctor and the therapist. Where they evil or like demons or something. Or was is the demon playing a trick on her. It didn't go anywhere after it happened so I forgot until it popped into my head right as the novel ended. Also I don't know how to feel about the explination of the demon. Like getting her perspective all the way at the end was like...eh. I don't think it was needed and if the author did keep it in, make it more vague or something. Keep the mystery of why she's doing what she does up.

Anyways pretty descent novel.
