This was really beautiful! Normally I don't gravitate to stories about friendship, but this is one that stands out. Ellie and Homa's friendship is messy, complex and beautiful, and set against the backdrop of 1950s-1980s Iranian turmoil really brought it out. The utterance of friendship toward the end of the novel was one of the most powerful things I've read. It's also a book about privilege, class, and activism, which brings a lot to think about. And as a side, I loved all of the descriptions of the Persian cuisine!
