Why Men Love Bitches by Sherry Argov
Did not finish book. Stopped at 35%.
I’ve been putting this off for quite some time and I finally just decided to call it quits with this one.
The author’s main point may have some validity to it, but that doesn’t extend so far as to justify her attempts at dating “advice” which is all really just loosely disguised purity culture rhetoric.
Essentially, what it boils down to is the author trying to convince the largely female-based audience that not engaging in sexual behavior with a potential partner immediately will inevitably make them seem more interesting, attractive, and therefore more valuable to their male counterparts. So, like I said— loosely disguised purity culture rhetoric. And this is so heavy handed throughout the book, you can’t miss it. The author practically beats her readers over the head with purity culture nonsense to the point where I, someone who is on the ace spectrum, felt uncomfy in regards to the author’s very clear underlying beliefs.
DNF @ 100 pages. Maybe one day I’ll come back to it but right now, I’m good.
