The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoevsky
4.0

Dostoevsky clearly writes manic characters and scenes well, whether it’s our gambler, Raskolnikov or select scenes from The Idiot there’s an unmistakable panic coming off the page. I felt Dostoevsky’s style fit perfectly in Crime and Punishment but there were times during The Idiot where the highly populated gatherings full of facial expressions, different degrees of laughing, and strangely spoken words became a bit laborious. Still a good novel if not his best.
