The Invasion of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

4.0

So much to think about! I hate a fantasy book that tries to force its magical elements to a resolve. Perhaps because there is still a book left in the series Johansen felt comfortable leaving some questions unanswered. I was highly skeptical of the Better World but the acknowledged fallability of the plan leaves me open to considering it further. Lily was rather irritating but ultimately was a good foil for Kelsea. The exploration of her own history gave depth to Kelsea and Lily served as a creative outlet for her anger. The finest writing in the world? No. But one of the most engrossing stories I have read in a long time. I can't wait for the next installment.
