The Inner Life of Animals by Peter Wohlleben
4.0
I love this book’s warmth and stories, but how absurd and sad that we continue to require a dethroning of Descartes’ 17th-century belief that non-human animals have no thoughts, feelings, etc. As Wohlleben demonstrates, academics build whole careers out of proving that pigs are smart, fish feel pain, and so on. I’d say that’s a waste of time, money and careers if it weren’t for the fact that many people still don’t believe it sufficiently to vocally oppose big ag, big pharma and others on their heinous treatment of animals backed by massively outdated Cartesian principles.
