The Book Thief is, fundamentally, a story about war and the things and people lost in it. Liesl and her peddling of books is a representation of learning and hope amidst the turmoil, a ray of hope in the darkness of this book.
The perspective of death is creative and entertaining as well. He is snarky at times, but always loveable in the way he is presented.
Extremely touching and easy to read, it is a fantastic book about the war, one that I highly recommend.
