Imperial Woman
by Pearl S. Buck
3.5 stars, but rounded down. Was a bit too long, and stopped being engaging in some parts. OVerall a fascinating look at that time in history (as the western countries began engaging with CHina in the 1800s, and up to the Boxer REbellion).
A great portrait of an ambitious, intelligent woman. She becomes very unsympathetic about 1/2 way through but hte author manages to make her impressive even though she is corrupted.
