Break by Hannah Moskowitz
3.0
I was expecting to like this book much more than I did. I loved Gone, Gone, Gone and Teeth so much, and since Break shares Moskowitz's tried and true theme of neglected boys who feel too much responsibility for their brothers, I really thought I would fall in love with this book. And I was on board for quite some time. I felt for Jonah's desperate bid to get stronger through self-harm, I loved his relationship with his brother, Jesse. I even liked the weird not-relationships he had with Charlotte and Naomi. But I think the final act set in the psychiatric hospital was too far-fetched for my tastes, and the book lost me.
That being said, this was her first published book and she wrote it while still in highschool, so kudos to you Hannah Moskowitz for that feat. I probably would have liked Break more if I didn't have such high expectations going in.
