Never Fall for Your Back-Up Guy by Kate O'Keeffe

4.0

BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Zara is about to be 30 and is stressing about not finding The One. So she comes up with a plan and asks her best friend Asher to be her back-up guy: when they’re 35, if they’re both still single they’ll get married. Sounds like a great plan right? It would be. You just have to make sure you don’t fall in love with your back up guy.

I ended up really enjoying this book. Honestly it started out a little slow for me and I had a hard time getting into it. It may have just been the timing of when I read it and just being busy. But regardless I just wasn’t sure how I was going to like it. But then it really pulled me in and I was dying to finish it and know how it ended. I loved the premise of this book: yes, Zara and Asher are best friends so technically this is a friends-to-lovers romance, but I loved the added element of them being each other’s backups. That’s something I haven’t seen in a romcom and I thought it was pretty unique.

So apparently this is the first book in a series that’s kind of a spin off of another of O’Keefe’s serieses, and I didn’t realize that until I started reading it. This is the first book in the It’s Complicated series and Zara is the sister of Sebastian, a main character in the Love Manor series. I have the first two books of that series on my kindle and am excited to read them. I am also so excited to read book 2 of this series because it’s enemies to lovers and I need to see more of Kennedy and Charlie!
