Skye's Lure by Angel Leya

3.0

This was an entertaining twist on an old favorite. It paid good attention to some of the basics of one of my favorite fairy tales, The Little Mermaid, but placed it firmly in a modern setting. The story was light-hearted and heart-warming at the same time, with several twists. It took me a while to warm up to the main character, and I certainly questioned some of her motivations and choices. However, I soon sympathized with Skye. I didn’t really care for her acceptance of Vince, after the kidnapping, despite the fact he was rather endearing. I would have loved to see more of the Sea King – he was a great character. The nickname ‘small fry’ by several people didn’t feel quite right, though.

There were some grammar errors here and there, but it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the story. This was a clean read, no hard violence or language, no sexual situations. There were several details that didn’t work – like her being able to read or speak the same language/idiom as Vince – but in such a short story, it didn’t detract too much.
