House Held Up by Trees by Ted Kooser

5.0

This is a beautiful little story that isn't quite a story.  This is the tale of a house who was well-loved and later abandoned, the tale of what happens when nature is left to its own devices.  It's less of a story than it is something that just happens, and in that way, it's beautiful.  Not to mention, of course, Jon Klassen's beautiful-as-always illustrations, moving this book from something nostalgic and sweet to something almost haunting.  His illustrations bring something more to this book, though that 'something' will likely mean something different to other readers.  For me, it's a sense of slow stillness, though for others it might be added nostalgia, beauty, or even a reminder of the passage of time.

House Held Up By Trees is a book almost best suited for looking, for it's beautiful in an enchanting way that I don't see all too often.
