Double Cross: The True Story of the D-Day Spies by Ben Macintyre

4.0

Third one in a row from Ben Macintyre [AGENT ZIGZAG, OPERATION MINCEMEAT] set around WW2 espionage and the world of double agents and their English handlers. Like his previous two books, I love this kind of thing and Macintrye masterly tells the story and gives us a complete, complex look at the eccentric personalities that were brought into the MI5 with the aim to trick Hitler and the Nazis regarding the landing of troops at Normandy. All I will say to describe the lengths of tomfoolery: pigeon double agents! Some of the double agents were more interesting to read about than others but taken as a whole, this is a fascinating element to the WW2 story. All these by Macintyre are recommended--the non-fiction book club that joined into the discussion of it loved it and wanted more.
