A Million to One by Adiba Jaigirdar

Did not finish book. Stopped at 44%.
I wanted to like this but it was clear from the beginning that Jaigirdar is a weak storyteller. She didn't jump for any of the creative opportunities such a rich setting as the Titanic naturally generates. She is afraid to establish any of her characters as individuals with their own conflicting motives and although she gets the cast together by chapter 5, she doesn't hit the ground running so much as lightly dips her brush in paint and meekly swipes it over the paper. There are no layers or thought-out details to her painting, nothing built solidly or carefully, everything see-through and no room for the audience to get lost in her vision.
