The Tiger Curtain and Other Stories by Paul Marriner

This is physically a lovely looking book.  It's also a brilliant size, it would fit perfectly in a handbag, or even a large pocket.  And the short stories mean it's perfect for reading 'on the go' as it were. You could easily manage a story or two on a bus journey.

This book of short stories really shows Paul's skills as a writer as they all about such different subjects, and yet all so utterly fantastic. There's also so poetry, which was utterly beautiful.  One thing that really shines through in Paul's stories, is his love and knowledge of music.  I don't think I've read a book by him yet that hasn't had me singing songs in my head as they are mentioned.

My absolute favourite story was Angel. It was beautiful, poignant and really made me pause and think.

Other stand outs for me were the poem For Love, which is about the things people do for no reason other than love. I think my favourite short story (they are all fantastic so it's hard to pick) was Columbine and Harlequin, which was a lovely historical story which really reminded me of how hard life could be.

Overall, this was a wonderful mix of stories. Mostly happy, occasionally not. But all well worth the read. Well done Paul, you've smashed it again! I can't wait to see what you write next.
