This was a hard read all around. I grew up watching the movie with my grandparents and the love story was why I watched it as a child. Growing up no one ever explained what war was going on at the time or what a slave even was. It wasn’t until I was in school and learning about it, did I realize what was happening. The book is very different and the strong racism was a lot to get through. I did force myself to finish the book, but I personally would never pick it up again. I loved Scarlett as a child and especially Rhett, but after getting a better idea of who they were in the book I personally can’t recommend this book to anyone unless you plan to read it to make yourself uncomfortable.
