Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield
5.0
This is a beautiful story about story telling and the importance of sharing with others. It's a combination of historical fiction and magical realism told as a fairy tale, and I absolutely adored the writing style. Setterfield managed to use a very specific language that might have sounded pretentious in any other context, but which fit the story perfectly. I found the river as the center point of the story such a clever idea, being the thing that connects all the different plot points, and at the end being like a character in it self.
I listened to the audiobook which was amazing, it really brought the diverse cast of character to life. If you're into fairy tales and mystical stories, definitely give this a read.
