Lies, Lies, Lies by Adele Parks
5.0

This book was so not what I expected. Started off thinking it was women’s fiction, then it turned into something else entirely.

It is an X-ray into a marriage with a functional alcoholic, showing both sides as the cracks start to appear. It’s a story of embarrassment, friendships, secrets and lies. So many secrets I found myself shouting at Daisy to open up and tell her friends and Simon oh why didn’t you talk to Daisy? So much could pain could have been avoided.

The characters are so varied and vivid I felt I was among friends I had known for years. Connie and Luke are the main friends in the story but I confess I held a soft spot for Lucy. I do love an outsider and black sheep are the ones I always seek out (far more interesting).

I’m not going to go into the plot as this is definitely a book where the less you know the better. Then you can have the same enjoyment I had with each little surprise (and there are many).

This would make a fantastic book club read as there is so many discussion points throughout and the author has kindly added some at the end.
