I can’t say that I enjoyed reading this book, but it’s interesting to look back on and think about.
I didn’t like the main character and her simply being a wife or some sort of companion throughout the novel. Her name is never mentioned, instead she is always an insignificant girl or later on the wife of Mr de Winter. Rebecca is the interesting one the reader wants to know more about, but the little information you get just didn’t keep the suspense for me. Personally the main characters obsession of Rebecca startet to annoy me at some point and her relationship to Maxim was extremely uncomfortable.(age deference, the way he told her only once that he loves her and does so nearly in the same sentence he tells her that he murdered Rebecca, the way he repeatedly says her innocent look is what’s attractive about her, etc I know most of the things I criticized are probably criticism as well and deliberate, but the book seemed hopeless and dragged over time. Overall I just didn’t find it enjoyable to read.
