Wait for It by Mariana Zapata

5.0

What can I say about this book. I feel like 5 stars aren't enough to describe how perfect this book was! (This review is going to be long lol :-p)
So, this book is the story of Diana Casillas. If you've read Mariana's books Kulti and The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, you would recognise Diana as Sal's cousin and Vanessa's best friend. Both of them even make small appearances in this book. (I loved that part!)
After her brother's and sister in law's death, the responsibility of raising their children was given to Diana. She had taken care of her nephews Josh and Louie for 2 years and to start a new life, they were now moving into a new neighborhood.
Dallas was separated from his wife but was still married. He lived with his brother Jackson in the house across Diana's and he was a part of the Marines for 21 years. Also, he had taken up a job as a baseball coach along with his cousin brother. Diana's boss Ginny also happened to be Dallas's cousin but they weren't very close (reasons are explained further in the story).
One night in the new neighborhood, Louie heard someone fighting in the lawn across their house and that's how Diana meets Dallas's aashole, inconsiderate and ungrateful brother Jackson at first and saves him from a fight.
She helps him into the house and she encounters Dallas, her neighbour. Obviously, he also happens to be Josh's baseball coach, so avoiding him becomes even more difficult. Both Diana and Dallas have a real bad first impression and at first the both of them were really awkward around each other but then slowly they ease up and become friends.
After the friendship part, the book was seriously so cute. I was swooning over Dallas. Where can we find a man as loyal and respectful as him???
"They were my boys. Maybe they hadn’t come straight from my body, but they were as mine as they could get. Plus, what did it matter if he thought I was a single mom? I was a single aunt. A single guardian. That was basically the same thing."
Diana's relationship and interactions with her nephews were so adorable. Although they were her brother's kids, she treated them as her own. Diana had a heart of gold, at twenty nine she had to figure out how to be a good parent and a role model to her nephews all by her own.
"My grandma had told me once you couldn’t make someone love you or even like you, but you could sure as hell make someone put up with you."
When Dallas finally got divorced, things between him and Diana grew serious. The man was so patient with Josh and Louie, he was really the epitome of perfect. He had all the swoon worthy characteristics filled up in his heart. The way he cared not only for Diana but also for her nephews was so heartwarming.
“You’re f*cking nuts.”
“You know that, but you’re still here, aren’t you?”
“I’m still here, Peach.”
Later as the story progresses, we get to know that Dallas had feelings for Diana right from the start, he was just waiting for his divorce settlement as he didn't want to disrespect his marriage vows and wanted to start a relationship with Diana the right way. This reason itself made me forget his indifference in the first few chapters and I really understood why he pushed Diana away as he thought she would hit on him.
