The Tutor by K. Larsen

After seeing the number of positive reviews for this book, I realize that I'm in the minority here, but too many things about it just drove me to distraction. The story is told in first person, multiple POV (6 of them). Now that normally wouldn't bother me, but the jump in tense did. I realize that may have been meant to show each person's thought processes, but one chapter in present tense while the next was in past was distacting and didn't add anything to the story for me. It also jumps around quite a bit, and some chapters didn't even really seem to be part of the story.
When I picked this one up, the thing that caught my attention was "Dark Romantic Thriller." There is absolutely nothing romantic in this book. It is dark and it's twisted, but Stockholm syndrome is not love. A young, innocent girl being subjected to the whims of a madman is not romantic.
Even with all that, I may have still been able to salvage something for this one, but I just couldn't connect with the story. I felt like I was reading an account of the events in the abstract, which doesn't pull me into the tale and leaves too much room to be outside the story.
There are triggers in this one and they run the gamut.
