This was a tough one. I wanted to like it as much as I did the first book but I just couldn't connect with the characters as much. I do recognized the points she was trying to make about the cycle of bad decisions in a war and how trauma can lead to poor decision making. At the same time I didn't really see any of the growth many of the characters seemed to make in the first book. The ending felt a bit rushed and concluded so abruptly it has me concerned on where this will go next. I'm still looking forward to seeing how they adapt this to the screen but for the first time I'm kind of hoping the show deviates from the book.
