Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys

This was a good book. I loved that it took place in New Orleans in the 1950s! The plot was unique and the characters were interesting, and it wasn't extremely predictable. My one issue with this book was that I had trouble picturing the setting, and I thought there could have been a bit more description. I felt like there was a lot of opportunities to vividly describe the French Quarter! And I'm not really sure how to explain it...I just couldn't quite get a feel for the atmosphere in the story. It felt like something was missing.
However, I really admired the main character, Josie. She was born into a difficult life with an awful mother, and I found it inspiring how she managed to make the best of it. I loved her relationships with Willie, Cokie, and Patrick. All were interesting and fun to read about!
My one regret with this book is that I wished I had read it slower. It was a bit more slow paced, which is fine, but I think I read it too quickly. I was on a long car ride with the book and it was good...so what was I supposed to do?! That might be why I didn't quite get a feel for the atmosphere...I may just have to re-read it in the future ;)
Overall, this was great and unique historical fiction with really good characterization. I'd love to read it again someday :)
