"Mabel. There is me and there is you and the snow has finished falling. Let's just sit here."
This was a bit of a weird book to read for me because my name is also Marin and I'm also a lesbian. Personally, I really enjoyed it! I definitely teared up a few times, and the reveals aboutGramps towards the end surprised me. I found Marin's choices to be realistic and very heartbreaking. And of course, when Mabel brought Ana and Javier to celebrate Christmas I was so surprised and touched. It really spoke to how much Mabel cared about Marin, despite what happened between them.
For the flaws: I felt that the Marin was a bit too focused her own loneliness. I know that was the theme of the story, but after the first few times it was mentioned I was like "okay, I get it". I also thought the beginning and middle were a bit slow, as if the plot was just stalling to get to the reveals to the end. There definitely was some tension, but as a reader, it just made me feel awkward rather than excited to see what happened next.
Overall, for a YA book (which I rarely read) this was amazing and had so much depth. Bonus points for having the main character share my name and my sexuality!
