The Secrets of Love Story Bridge by Phaedra Patrick

4.0

I read this one because it was an EVPL bookclub pick. It is probably not one I would have picked up otherwise, but I really enjoyed it. The story centers around Mitchell Fisher who is pretty down on romance since he lost his wife (and his daughter Poppy's mother). His job is to cut off padlocks that couples fasten to the famous "love story" bridge for the city. As an architect he knows that the extra weight is not good for the bridge. One day a woman in a yellow dress falls into the river from the bridge and Mitchell jumps in to save her without thinking. He feels an immediate connection to her, but can't even learn her name before she disappears. He ends up finding her sister Liza and is shocked to learn that the woman in yellow has been missing for a year. She did leave a padlock on the bridge. Mitchell, Poppy, and Liza all work to solve the mystery and find the woman in yellow. The characters are well developed and grow throughout the story. The romance is sweet and believable. It's a very charming book about second chances and new beginnings in unexpected places.
