Cackle by Rachel Harrison

Annie is a relatable MC, someone who spends all her time trying to please others and make herself as inconvenient to others as possible that she ends up sacrificing her own happiness. Each time she mentioned the spiral of embarrassment I felt a kinship with her as well as a wave of my own embarrassing memories that continue to haunt me. Rowan seems like a cute little town, though I wish we had gotten to know the residents better. Sophie was just the right amount of endearing and creepy. My arachnophobia didn't take well to the number of times spiders are mentioned and described in great detail, however. Couldn't Sophie's affinity be for bats instead? No matter how many times the author says Ralph has a cute fuzzy body or smile I will not think of him as some kind of doglike pet. For all the creepy crawlies, and for what was (in my opinion) a slightly unsatisfying ending, I give this one a 3.5 bumped up to 4 stars
