I mean… I don’t know what to say.
I really really wanted to like this book. But I kinda.. don’t. Some parts were okay. Tournament was sometimes fun. Sometimes. However, the majority of it was just our main protag running around with her “main char buff” where she just gets away with shit just because.. main character I guess?

The whole “I’m not like other girls” vibe is too much. Please write an actual character? With a personality?
The love interest (don’t remember his name but it’s probably something cringe af) is even worse.

The tension is non-existent. I’m sure the author thought there were loads but it always feels forced and too obvious. Absolutely no chemistry between any of the characters. And even the main cast is so under developed that I forget about them as soon as I put down the book for the day.

The writing was clunky and thus made the entire book so awkward to read. No real flow and very juvenile prose. It’s to be expected for this type of story but I didn’t expect it to be so jarring. Probably due to the fact that the people who recommended this to me told me it was written beautifully. Huh?

Yes this is a rant because I am kinda mad. I wanted to like this book. It had promise. But it’s a let down.

Some parts were genuinely good and fun but it gets overshadowed by the horrendous prose and terrible world building and even worse 1 dimensional characters.

Please, do better.
Just like Fourth Wing, this had potential. I’m pretty disappointed.
