Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
4.5

I knew I had to read this one asap after the first one because the first one was so dense with different terms and stuff. My Libby hold was only seven days though + I was quite busy so I really had to rush through it which I think damaged my reading experience. I think both these books would be well worth a reread and I would be able to appreciate all the foreshadowing more

I really did not understand the first 50-60%? I actually looked up a plot summary at that point and when reading through it really realized I had no idea what was going on.  But after that things cleared up a LOT. The whole plot got much more enjoyable  once the line between Harrow and Gideon blurred. And I LOVED the second half. All the twists, the reemergence of Gideon, the conversations they have, the world building. Great.

And I think another thing that  carried the book was the characters. The older Lycantors were so much fun, I LOVED Ianthe and her whole arc and pining over Harrow. I loved Harrow, I have such a soft spot for insane characters and she filled that psychological horror aspect so well. Gideon is so good always and I love her dynamic with Harrow even though they weren’t in the same room. Surely we will have a moment with them next book. It’s so doomed yuri

Also pet peeve I can’t stand how this author is constantly switching titles for the characters within paragraphs(Like. Princess of Ida, Inathe, youngest lyctor, etc) Instead of sticking to one name and adding descriptions. It makes sense to switch names for dialogue but for everything else It makes this 200x more difficult to get through
