This was a story that I only read because a girl friend made me read it. And boy oh boy am I  glad she did! I originally started it, and almost DNF “ACOTAR”. I started getting bored, and feeling that the story was going nowhere. It was because of her that I continued the book. Which I am thankful for. Because this ended up making my favorite series list.
This is a fairytale story of love, loss, and growth. I did find the main characters a little confusing when I first read the book. But enjoyed the personal torment they went through. And the strength that each one displayed. Mass gave the perfect story to show how some things can stay hidden when needed. And how we can still open up and grow.
I had mixed feelings about Feyre. I liked her and felt bad for her. But I also had a lot of moments where I could only think “WTF?”. I could relate to her having to take care of her family, and worrying about her sisters who she had been taking care of. Which made it easy to understand her worry and fears.
The back and forth feeling I got from both Feyre and Tamlin really helped bring them to life. Add in the multiple issues and drama, oh and the bad guys!  Well it really helped bring this book from just “another Beauty and the Beast retelling” to its own story. Don’t get me wrong. It does still have the “Beauty and the Beast” feeling. But it does not follow the same lines.
This is one of those books that even though it is rated as a young adult book. It may or may not be for some teens. There is a light amount of sexual tension. But they do not go into a large amount of detail. With that said, it is still interesting enough that as an adult you do not feel like you're reading a teens book.
Because of this I did give it a 7/10 rating. Though I will probably give it a better rating as I reread it.
