The Mostly True Story of Tanner and Louise
by Colleen Oakley
What a fun, delightful story! THE MOSTLY TRUE STORY OF TANNER AND LOUISE was the feel-good book I didn’t know I needed! The book was both heartwarming and endearing and I adored the main characters, Tanner and Louise!
Twenty-one year old Tanner Quimby is down on her luck. Not only did she lose her soccer scholarship at Northwestern because of an unfortunate leg injury, she needs to find a job and a place to live.
Octogenarian Louise Wilt, a recent widow, is fiercely independent and young at heart. She loves her crossword puzzles, daily vodka happy hours, and most of all, her independence. But after a recent hip injury / fall, her daughter insists that she hire a caretaker slash driver.
When Tanner discovers a job opening to be Louise’s live-in caretaker, she jumps at the chance. At first both women are content at ignoring each other, but soon Tanner starts noticing things that seem amiss. Like the garden shed that’s locked up like Ft. Knox and how Louise looks uncannily like a suspect for the largest jewelry heist in American history as shown on the local news! Things get even weirder when Louise announces one morning that they need to leave town ASAP!
That moment leads to the greatest adventure of both their lives. This unlikely duo form a strong bond and I loved the dynamic between the two. On the surface, Tanner and Louise could not be more different, but they’re actually more similar than they think. Their witty banter was my favorite! Their convos were downright hilarious and I loved Louise’s little pearls of wisdom.
The plot was entertaining and really clever! I especially loved hearing Louise’s backstory and the little twists at the end were super fun! 4.5⭐️
Thank you so much, @berkleypub, for the gifted book, and @prhaudio for the complementary audiobook! THE MOSTLY TRUE STORY OF TANNER AND LOUISE comes out on March 28!
