Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer
4.0

Krakauer unpacks the bloody and tumultuous history of the Mormon church while exploring the murder of a Provo housewife and her baby. To the contemporary, mainstream church, the murders are an abhorrent deviation from Mormon principles. As he delineates the history of the church and the darker sides of its revelations, Krakauer shows how those darker sides provided cover for LDS Fundamentalists to see the murders as a logical and sanctioned solution to a vexing problem.
