Excellent character development
I love this book. The story, the writing, the world, but especially the character development. The main character's youthful naivete and raucous emotions combined with her intelligence, strength and sense of duty create a beautiful frame into which the author builds her growth and coming of age. Young Izzy's changing viewpoint as she struggles to understand who she is becoming gives wonderful depth and meaning to a fantastic tale.
I hope the following books explore more deeply the secondary characters as well, as I found myself curious about so many of them. They seem to have notable back stories of their own, even the ones who played the smallest roles.
